Tsomoriri Lake or Manali via Tsomoriri and Tsokar (salt Lake)

Korzok village, situated at 4,572 meters, and the 23 km long Tsomoriri Lake are 7 hours drive from Leh . Surrounded by the stark and snowcapped mountains, reflected in the still waters of the lake,Tsomoriri is also a breeding ground to a large number of bird species including the rare bar headed geese and the brahminy duck. Besides the birds, various wildlife like the blue sheep, tibetan antelopes, skyangs (wild asses), marmots and fox are seen in this region. The tiny nomadic settlement of Korzok lies close to the lake with its monastery perched on a hilltop above the village. The few barley-fields at Korzok must be among the highest cultivation in the world, but there is no guarantee that the crop will ripen.

The nomads spend their summer months moving with their animals to higher pastures for fodder and many homes remain abandoned in the summer for this reason.
